The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) is the UK's Centre of Excellence for integrated research in terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and their interaction with the atmosphere.
As part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), we provide National Capability based on innovative, independent and interdisciplinary science and long-term environmental monitoring, forming an integral part of NERC's vision and strategy. Working in partnership with the research community, policy-makers, industry and society, we deliver world-class solutions to the most complex environmental challenges facing humankind.

Water Programme
Delivering science for sustainable management of catchments and water resources
CEH’s Water Programme provides scientific insights into the processes that determine water flows, water quality and biotic resources in order to assist the sustainable management of catchments and their water resources.

Areas of research
We aim to generate new data and tools that inform and support the wider community, including the public and policy-makers such as government departments, including the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Department for International Development and the Department for Transport, and the European Union.

Research work on water quality includes the following:

- Micro-organics – understanding how micro-organic contaminants behave in aquatic systems and assessing their impact on ecosystems

Aquatic Plant Management Group
The Aquatic Plant Management Group (formerly Centre for Aquatic Plant Management) is the only research group working on aquatic plant management in the UK. The group is based at CEH's Wallingford site.
